Did I Mention a Rollercoaster! Day 49!

WELCOME TO CALEN'S 2ND BLOG. WE SHALL KEEP DRIVING ON DESPITE THE INTERNET PEOPLE DISLIKING MY MASSIVE FILE UPLOADS.
2lbs 12 ozs

Look at us all go. We have been moving around quickly and swiftly and just working with the changes. Calen's weight has been on the steady daily rise. His feeding intakes are soaring, they have him currently at 22ml every 3 hours with that fortified to 26 kcal per ounce. He certainly has some swelling still but it has seemed to move from his feet and move to his eye's and face and as you read below there is a reason why I think it is only in his face now.

This was Calen on Thursday. He was on the highflow o2 and he was continuing to have more and more heart rate drops. He was recovering from them on his own but they were just so often. He was showing a lot of signs of labored breathing so it was decided that he would benefit from a ventilatory change. We have went back to him on a CPAP. It definitely helps out with the situation.

As noted above in his feeding increases, food is no problem for Calen, he is a absorbing machine.

Ok so at about 11pm on Friday night we received a phone call from the hospital, you expect bad news when they do that, but they said that they would be transferring Calen down to the 1st floor NICU. So he was not supposed to be down there unless he was completely off ventilatory support, but they had a large surge of new babies and they needed the room upstairs. The said he was the most stable baby they had so down he went. It is quite a bit different on the 1st floor, such as much larger, there is 60 room opposed to 19, lots of crying and you see babies in cribs and nurses holding them because they are so close to going home, it brings lots of hope for the soon future. Our new room has a window which is grand spectacular, I don't think that I will get as tired in there as I did upstairs. Same primary nurse continue to follow us so that is nice to see familiar faces.

The view out of the window. We had a shelve unit in the old room, this one doesn't so that is the worst part, have to put all the stuff in the window seal.

Just a fun shot of Calen's CPAP. Momma and baby of course in the background there.

The CPAP

This is the hallway that leads to Calen's room. The hallway has some pictures of babies and what not from past stays. It is much more visually pleasing then upstairs. We also learned that there are 3 sleep rooms on this floor and they are for mom's that are starting to breast feed. So essentially when they start breast feeding they will attempt it every 2 hours for 72 straight hours. Due to the fact that this is extremely time consuming there are rooms for the mom's to sleep, watch tv and shower in, they are pretty decent.

Sorry for the delay's in post. Busy busy. It is spring, photography jobs are adding up, so many late nights ahead. It's about 2am, ready to go to bed now. Talk to you all tomorrow, I am actually off all day, will be nice change of pace!!!
